ITINERARY
DAY 1
CUSCO – CHACHABAMBA – WIÑAY WAYNA – MACHU PICCHU – RUIN BRIDGE (CAMPING)
Our staff will come to your hotel at 5:00 am to pick you up and take you to the train station of Ollantaytambo; the travel time is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes; during your trip, you can see majestic landscapes such as the Sacred Valley of the Incas, snow-capped mountains and farmland. Arriving at Ollantaytambo, we will go to the station to board the train that will take us to kilometer 104; the travel time is approximately 1 hour.
At Km 104, which is 2,200 meters above sea level, we will start our hike by crossing the bridge of the Urubamba River or Wilkamayu. This river means “sacred river” in Quechua and was of great importance to them. Upon arrival at the checkpoint, you must present your identification documents, such as a Passport, Alien Card, or National Identity Card. Hidden in the semitropical forest, the archaeological center of Chachabamba and Choquesuysuy is only a 15-minute walk away. After your visit, we will begin the tour with ascending steps towards Wiñaywayna. On the way, we can witness the Sacred Valley, waterfalls, and semitropical vegetation, especially orchids. After 3 hours of walking, we will arrive at Wiñaywayna (2,650 m / 8,694 ft). This beautiful place shows the agricultural techniques of the Inca empire due to its numerous circular terraces, originally used to cultivate different products. Wiñaywayna is named after a beautiful orchid that grows in abundance in the area and means “Eternally young” in Spanish. The city has more than 20 buildings, including the Temple of Fertility. We will walk around this place for about 1 hour, then enjoy our box lunch to recover energy and continue with the walk to the control of Inti Punku. The second part of the tour involves a hike of about 2 hours through Andean plains, stone steps, and tambos (“resting places”) to reach the Inti Punku, which means Gate of the Sun, located at 2,720 m. This site was originally the main checkpoint entrance and exit of the sacred city of Machu Picchu; from there, you can see a spectacular view of Machu Picchu and its natural beauty. INFORMACION ADICIONAL
How to prevent altitude sickness?
During your visit, the patient may experience discomfort such as dizziness, tiredness, or nausea due to altitude sickness or soroche. Avoid high-fat foods and alcohol before traveling. To alleviate symptoms, you should adapt within a day to the high altitude of Cusco. Coca leaf infusions are a natural plant that the Incas used to cultivate to prevent altitude sickness.
What is the best time to visit Cusco and Machu Picchu?
It is best to visit Cusco during the dry season, from April to December. This absence means that the roads are not flooded, and the landscapes are more pleasant to explore and photograph. In comparison, January, February, and March are the rainiest months.
How far in advance can I request a tour?
We recommend buying the tours weeks or months in advance because there are a limited number of train tickets and Machu Picchu spaces. Do not wait until the last minute to book your tour; otherwise, you will not be able to find spaces.
How is the hotel/accommodation?
For all tours that include hotels, we offer 3* and 4* category hotels with spacious and comfortable rooms, bathrooms, hot showers, and buffet breakfast. If tourists like it, they can change the accommodation to a better service. You have to request it via email for an additional cost.
